Kate Rabuck

Principal | Operations & Aesthetics Consultant

I love puzzles, seeing how things fit together, and zooming in and out - from the weeds to the treetops - of an organization to accomplish its vision and mission. Working in nonprofits for 15 years I have seen how my passion and strengths fill a need in organizations across departments and I am dedicated to sharing those skills with you.

About Me

Growing up in a household of engineers with a passion for nature and art, I thought my calling was to be an illustrator. While earning my B.A. in Fine Art, however, I discovered art wasn't enough. I wanted to change the world and found this in conservation education and environmental interpretation. I went back to school to get an M.S. in Free Choice Learning Science Education with a focus in Conservation - a very lengthy degree title that focused on audience research and evaluation in places like museums, zoos, aquaria, and botanic gardens. While working with my graduate advisor, John Falk, and conducting surveys at Santa Barbara Botanic Garden for my research, I discovered a love for data and meticulously documented methodologies. I was excited by more than just the numbers, I wanted to finding ways to share those numbers in a way that informed development and inspired organizational change while creating infrastructure to support that change.

In every role, I have used this foundation of marrying the technical with the artistic. I improve processes, communications, and organizational identity. I find fulfillment in filling in wherever is needed to set an organization up for success, which usually means the less sexy, but essential: building processes, creating brand guidelines and templates, and implementing new software.

I am inspired by data, intrigued by details, and motivated by missions. Let me focus on the nitty gritty of streamlining day-to-day operations, shoring up inter-departmental collaboration, and creating beautiful ways to present information to stakeholders so you can focus on what makes your organization special - your mission.

Rabuck Rhymes with 'Grey Duck'

In art, you need to be able to see the basic shapes and connecting lines that make up a subject while also seeing the whole you're trying to create. Understanding the skeleton leads to more accurate placement of details and a better final product.

Rabuck Consulting can help you identify and document the pieces that make up your organization's operations and communications in a way that is not only functional but aesthetically relevant to your brand.

Why a corgi & a duck?

Short answer, because I love them - their personality and appearance.

Longer answer, animals have always been part of my family. From the classic dog and cat to the slightly more unique frogs and leopard gecko, I grew up with pets. As soon as I had enough stability to support a dog, I adopted Joy, at the time a 4 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Ever since, she has been my constant companion and we have spent countless hours training, playing, and just being together. Anyone who has met her can tell you she is adorable, independent, and smart. Anyone who has a corgi can tell you, they become a part of your identity. I'm not ashamed to admit I have corgi planters and dishtowels.

In 2020 my husband and I moved to Sonoma, CA. One of the first things we did was get chickens. Not just any chickens, fancy chickens with curled feathers, speckles, and colorful eggs. In typical fashion, I felt the out-of-the-box coop was not good enough for my designer birds, so, after researching numerous custom coops, predator exclusion strategies, and building structural standards, I designed a custom coop, complete with step-by-step instructions, diagrams, and material needs. I learned how to use various power tools necessary for the endeavor and, with a little help from my husband, constructed their new home.

After a year of enjoying fresh eggs, I decided we needed a duck to round out the flock. She, of course, also needed to be unique in her own way, so we got a White Crested Duck. Unfortunately a crested duck is not as recognizable as a graphic, white is not a great color for an adaptable logo, and it doesn't rhyme with my last name, hence the grey duck.
